So you have just started the new startup or have a startup currently going on for quite some time. It is imperative to have a good business laptop to do your business function.

As the business functions are quite different from other sectors work or normal usage, I will review the laptops based on being lightweight, portable, multi tasking, good screen, have comfortable keyboard and trackpad and a good graphics card in case of need arise.

If you are in hurry and want to get a single recommendation then I would suggest you to go with Apple MacBook Air M1 2020. Personally currently I am using the same model with M1 chip with 16GB RAM and it is amazing device to have.

So now lets jump directly to the list:

1. Apple MacBook Air M1 2020

Apple MacBook Air M1

As you already know, Apple is known to produce best quality and reliable machines over the years be it Mac, iPhone. And when it released its own M1 chip then performance is guaranteed in that case. Personally speaking, this device is capable of taking huge load with an amazing battery life.

Performance: As opposed to its predecessor, currently the m1 processor in MacBook Air is beast. I have tested it with opening a lot of Chrome, Safari, Opera tabs with running Unity(Game development) which is resource intensive and I can confirm there is not a single glitch. Processor and RAM performs very well and have been optimised well. Even if you have connected external monitor to it, there is nothing stopping you from doing multiple tasking on both the screens. It provides so much performance that one time you feel like working on MacBook Pro.

There is no graphics memory now and instead it is unified memory structure. As a user of 16GB RAM unit, I didn’t had any issue it for graphics intensive work.

Design: The design of MacBook has not been changed much from its predecessor. Screen has got 2560×1600 resolution with max brightness of 400 nits. It has fingerprint Touch ID login so your MacBook starts without entering password or pin every time you login.

There is no fan now in MacBook Air. Instead there is aluminium heat spreader. I felt heat only when I started and running multiple Unreal engine otherwise other activities I haven’t felt any heat.

Webcam is 720p and does its job for Zoom meeting and other video stuff but keeping in mind this is MacBook it is below par.

Keyboard and Trackpad: Keyboard feels delight to type on and trackpad is among the best in market. Its scrolling is something I haven’t seen in any other laptop. There is few changes from last model such as you get spotlight search on function key rows. Additionally now it has do not disturb and dictation button.

Battery: As per specification you can get 18 hours of video playback on this machine. But practically, I could get around 9-10 hours of running time on this machine on various tasks and some are pretty intensive to processor. You can charge it for full and forget the charger for good amount of time, working from anywhere in home. Usually I do not shut down and just lid down it. It wakes up very fast upon lid opening that just amaze me.

All in all it is a good device and good power house. You can rely it on for performance, battery and aesthetics.

Just like MacBook, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon has its own charm and reputation. This is 9th generation X1 Carbon. If you talk business laptop and if you don’t talk about ThinkPad X1 Carbon, it won’t do the justice.

Performance: Like Macbook, this device is beast. With 11th generation processors and Intel Iris Xe GPU, it can take loads of multitasking with ease.

Screen: It has 14″ WUXGA (1920 x 1200) IPS anti-glare Display (400 nits) with Integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics. But actual nits you might get will come around 200-250 mark. The display images are good, crisp and with good contrast.

Keyboard and Trackpad

The touch pad is bit wider in this ThinkPad compared to older version. The touchpad is comfortable to work with smooth scrolling. Similar to other ThinkPad it has got red tracepoint.

Sound: This ThinPad has got Dolby Atmos audio system. The sound is great with good bass. It has got Dolby access which can be used to set music Preset according to the need.

Battery: Like Macbook, this machine also has got good battery. You can get around 8-10 hours of battery life with heavy usage.

Being a MacBook user myself, I can assure the reliability and performance of MacBook. As I mentioned in MacBook Air, M1 chip is the latest from Apple and has great performance increase as compared to previous Intel chip. Apple boasting 2.8x faster performance from old model and the claim stands to be good.

With m1 processor, this device can take huge workload and that’s better than MacBook Air m1 as well.

Apple claimed to have longest battery life in this MacBook Pro and that claim stands good while using this device.

The design has not been changed for long time and it is classic MacBook Pro design thus it is perfect for business user. The device does not come now with butterfly keyboard. The trackpad is big and spacious and best in the class segment. On top of the keyboard OLED strip for function buttons and other use cases and on side of it, fingerprint/power button.

Apple MacBook Pro has its own legacy for business user. This might be a bit pricier than other business laptop but if you are looking more on performance side, then you can choose Pro over MacBook Air.
