1. Identify similar keys right away

If you’ve ever had two or more keys that look alike, you know the pain of constantly trying to figure out which one you need for which door. Well, you can use this easy trick to help you identify them right away. Get some brightly colored nail polish and paint the head of each key with a different color.

2. Keep your bathroom mirror from fogging up

We all know that moment when you get out of the shower and have to use your towel to wipe away the fog from the mirror or wait for it to clear, so you can keep getting ready. To keep your bathroom mirror from fogging up, apply a little bit of car wax to the mirror. After it dries, buff it with a soft, dry cloth. And just like that, no more foggy mirror!

3. Open a stuck lid

It happens so often it’s a sitcom cliché: you need to open that jar of pickles or jam, but the lid just won’t budge. To deal with a stubborn lid, just use this life hacks. Run the lid under hot water for a minute or two, dry the jar, and try opening it again. You’ll be surprised how often the lid will just pop right open.

4. Prevent a pot from boiling over with just a wooden spoon

Water boiling over the edge of a pot is one of the most frustrating things to happen in the kitchen. Numerous life hacks have been thought of to address this particular issue, but perhaps none so easy as the wooden spoon trick. To keep the water in your pot from boiling over, simply place a wooden spoon across the top of the pot. The spoon pops the bubbles of the boiling water, keeping it from boiling too high and spilling over the edge.

5. Make 2 resealable bags out of 1

If you don’t have enough resealable bags or need to make a smaller bag out of a larger one, this life hacks will amaze you. Grab an old butter knife and heat the blade with a lighter. Then just slice your resealable bag in half. The hot knife will cauterize the edge making two bags out of one!

6. Add extra comfort to any rug

You have that rug that looks so good but does nothing to soften the hard floor underneath it. To add some comfort, just add some carpet padding underneath it. Thicker and cheaper than typical rug pads, carpet padding is also easy to cut to size and will bring a new level of comfort to your home.

7. Remove gum from your carpet

Gum in the carpet can turn any day into a bad day. It’s sticky and impossible to get all the way out. Except, with this life hacks you can easily pull the gum out of any carpet. Simply fill a sandwich bag with ice cubes and place it on the gum. After about 30 minutes, the gum will be frozen and easy to break apart and pull out of the carpet.

8. Make your old shoes look like new

Those old shoes you’re embarrassed to wear in public but are just so comfortable, don’t throw them out. With just an old toothbrush and a little toothpaste, you can get those shoes looking like new. Apply some non-gel, white toothpaste to an old toothbrush and work the toothpaste into the dirty spots on your shoes. Leave for about 10 minutes and then just wipe off the shoes with a damp towel.

9. Use tea bags to get rid of the smell in your shoes

Smelly shoes are the worst, but this simple life hacks will help you rid them of their smell for good. Simply place a few dry tea bags in the offending shoes and the tea bags will absorb the smell.

10. Amplify your phone’s speakers

If you need to boost the volume on your phone’s speakers to listen to your favorite song or podcast, you don’t need to buy expensive Bluetooth speakers. Just place the phone into a glass cup. The cup will boost the volume and you can go about your day.

11. Easily start a campfire with dryer lint

Building a campfire can be rewarding or exhausting, depending on how easily it lights. Many people use flammable liquids, like lighter fluid, to get their fire going, but that can be expensive and dangerous. Next time you go camping, just use this life hack to get your fire going easily. Bring along some dryer lint stuffed in an empty toilet paper tube. Place the tube at the base of your fire and light. Dryer lint catches fire easily and burns long enough to light the wood above it.

12. Keep snow from sticking to your snow shovel

Shoveling snow is one of the most arduous, backbreaking jobs of any homeowner, and it’s only made more difficult when chunks of snow stick to the shovel. To prevent this from happening next winter, coat your snow shovel in car wax. Let the wax dry and then buff with a dry cloth. Next time you go out to shovel the drive or walk, the snow will slide right off your shovel without sticking.

In the end…

Life can be hard, but we don’t have to accept everything the way it is. These little life hacks will make your life a little easier, so you can focus on enjoying the good times and not sweat the small stuff.
